NFL Injury Report: 49ers-Panthers (Final Report)

Final injury reports are out and 49ers cornerback Nate Clements is the big name on the 49ers injury report.  With him being listed as questionable and not practicing much all week, all indications are that he will not start.  If he does not make the start, veteran corner Will James will start in his place.

James, who was signed in the offseason to shore up the corner spot has only played recently as he was injured in training camp and through the first couple of games.  He leapfrogged Tarell Brown and took over his spot as the nickel corner.

For the Panthers, Steve Smith is listed as probable and will likely play this Sunday.  His speed may be an issue for the 49ers defense but the larger issue is the running backs, especially DeAngelo Williams.  The last time the 49ers faced a running back that was a speed back was in Kansas City and as we all remember that did not end well.  In that game the Chiefs "speed" running back, Jamaal Charles ran for 97 yards and had 57 yards receiving.
