Giants About Finish Roster Moves; Javier Lopez & Jeff Suppan Signed, Zito Still a Starting Pitcher

The Giants have about finished their off-season work by getting almost all of their players signed to avoid arbitration. They are still working on signing Andres Torres but all indications are that the deal will be done before the arbitration case.

The Giants recently agreed to a deal with lefty reliever Javier Lopez on a one-year contract. The financial aspects of the Javier Lopez deal have not been released but we know that it should be between the $2 million that the Giants offered and the $2.875 million that Lopez was asking for in arbitration.

The Giants also added another pitcher by signing former Brewer, Jeff Suppan, to a minor league deal. The deal reportedly offers an invite to big league camp in Spring Training and also offers Suppan an opt-out clause if he does not make the Giants opening day roster.

Suppan gives the Giants another arm for Spring Training and they could choose to keep him as a long reliever through the season.

Just in case you are wondering, there is no way that the Giants finally cut Barry Zito and replace him with Suppan. Absolutely, NO WAY!!!
